Disabled training firearms, inert ammunition and the CFSC handbook laid out on a classroom table

Overview

The CFSC meets the Canadian Firearms Program’s training requirement for a non-restricted licence. You learn and practise safe handling, loading and unloading, and the safety and trigger functions of every common type of non-restricted firearm, plus the rules for storing and transporting firearms and ammunition.

Class uses disabled firearms and dummy ammunition. There is no live fire, and you don’t need any experience: the course was designed for people who have never handled a firearm.

Your instructor is Ed Hubbell, a designated CFSC instructor for BC and Yukon, licensed security professional and trauma medicine instructor. He clears up the common confusion about using, transporting and storing firearms under current law.

  • If you don’t pass the written or practical exam, you can re-write each one once, under Canadian Firearms Program conditions.
